The tonic Sa is between c and d - similar to most sitars. The Sarangi should have the following tuning (with Sa = c):

For the upper sympathetic strings right and left: You can select the tuning of these strings freely. It usually conforms to the notes that are to be stressed. The tuning of these strings can be handled relatively freely – depending on which sounds are to be emphasised. The tonal range, however, is mostly between Sa and Pa since all strings have the same length and thickness.
